Emberfall Oaths

★★★★★ 4.6 Editor rating

Emberfall Oaths is the kind of RPG that respects a phone screen. Battles are turn-based and readable, with big clear icons for each ability and a timeline that shows who acts next. You spend most of your time building a party of misfits, each with their own reason for joining, and the writing gives them enough voice that you actually care who survives a rough fight.

Progression feels generous without being mindless. You unlock new skills at a steady pace and can respec cheaply, so experimenting never feels like a punishment. We rebuilt our whole team twice just to try different combos and never regretted it.

The story leans on smaller moments — a campfire chat, a letter you find in a ruin — rather than huge cutscenes. That works well in short bursts. Our one complaint is that later dungeons reuse a few layouts, but the combat kept us engaged enough to forgive it.
